Sample output from a typical scan:

Critical image-alt — Missing alt text WCAG 1.1.1

3 images have no alt attribute. Screen readers announce the filename instead.

img.hero-banner, img.team-photo, img.logo-footer
Serious color-contrast — Insufficient contrast WCAG 1.4.3

Link text on grey background measures 2.8:1. Minimum for normal text is 4.5:1.

nav.main-nav a.nav-link
Moderate focus-visible — No focus indicator WCAG 2.4.7

Interactive elements suppress the browser focus ring with outline:none and provide no replacement.

button.cta-primary, a.nav-link

Most accessibility overlays lie. Ours doesn’t.

One-click “fix-it” overlays claim to make your site compliant. They can’t. Many WCAG failures require human judgment to fix correctly. CloviAble tells you what it found and what still needs a person.

What typical overlays claim
“We make your site compliant instantly.” — No overlay can make content meaningful to screen readers. A broken alt attribute still conveys nothing.
“One script tag fixes everything.” — Cognitive accessibility, focus order, and meaningful alt text require source code changes, not a widget injection.
“You’re protected from lawsuits.” — Courts have rejected overlay defenses. Source code accessibility is what matters legally.
What CloviAble actually does
Exact selectors per finding — every issue includes the CSS selector of the broken element so developers know exactly where to look.
Honest about automation limits — we flag the issues automated tools cannot fully assess (cognitive, meaningful alt text, focus intent) and tell you why.
Concrete fix instructions — each issue cites the WCAG criterion it violates and provides a code-level fix recommendation.

From vague to actionable

A generic “some issues found” audit versus a CloviAble report on the same page.

Typical generic report
Accessibility Audit — example.com
Some images may be missing alt text.
Possible color contrast issues detected.
Keyboard navigation may have gaps.
Score: 72/100 — Needs improvement.

No selector. No WCAG reference. No fix instruction. Nothing actionable for a developer.

CloviAble report — same page
CloviAble Report — example.com
Critical · image-alt · WCAG 1.1.1
Selector: img.hero-banner
Fix: add alt="[descriptive text]". If decorative, use alt="".
Serious · color-contrast · WCAG 1.4.3
Selector: nav.main-nav a
Ratio 2.8:1, minimum 4.5:1. Darken link color to #595959 or above.
Moderate · focus-visible · WCAG 2.4.7
Selector: button.cta-primary
Remove outline:none or replace with outline: 2px solid #065f46.

Exact element. Specific criterion. Fix instruction. A developer can act on this immediately.

What automated tools can and can’t do

No automated tool covers 100% of WCAG. Here is a frank breakdown.

Capability CloviAble Overlay widgets Manual audit only
Missing alt text (1.1.1)
Color contrast (1.4.3)
Keyboard focus visible (2.4.7)
Missing form labels (1.3.1)
Heading hierarchy (1.3.1)

— = requires human judgment; not detectable by any automated tool. Automated scanners (including CloviAble) cover approximately 30–40% of WCAG 2.1 criteria. We label every finding that falls outside automated detection so you know where human review is needed.

Common questions

Does CloviAble make my site WCAG 2.1 compliant?
No — and we will not claim otherwise. CloviAble surfaces the issues that automated scanning can reliably detect. Automated tools cover approximately 30–40% of WCAG 2.1 success criteria. The rest requires human judgment: whether alt text is meaningful, whether the reading level is appropriate, whether the navigation order makes logical sense for screen reader users.

What CloviAble does: give you a reliable, actionable list of automatable failures with exact element locations so your development team can fix them efficiently. That is a meaningful head start, not a magic switch.
What can automated tools NOT find?
Several important WCAG criteria require human judgment that no scanner can replicate:
  • Meaningful alt text (1.1.1) — we detect a missing alt attribute, but we cannot assess whether alt="img_3847.jpg" is meaningful.
  • Cognitive accessibility (3.1.5) — reading level, plain language, cognitive load.
  • Logical focus order (2.4.3) — whether the tab sequence makes sense in context.
  • Error identification (3.3.1) — whether error messages clearly describe what went wrong.
  • Caption accuracy (1.2.2) — whether video captions are accurate and in sync.
We mark these as “requires human review” in the report so you know exactly where automation ends.
How is CloviAble different from an overlay widget?
Overlay widgets inject a JavaScript snippet that tries to apply runtime patches. They can restyle some elements and add some ARIA attributes, but they cannot fix the underlying source code, which is what accessibility standards and courts actually evaluate.

CloviAble is a scanner, not a patcher. It reports real issues in your source code with the information your developers need to fix them properly. Think of it as a linter for accessibility.
What does the embeddable widget do?
The CloviAble widget is a small score badge that displays your current accessibility score based on the most recent scan. It links to your accessibility statement and is transparent about what the score means. It does not claim to fix issues or guarantee compliance.

How often does CloviAble scan my site?
Free accounts can run on-demand scans at any time. Pro and Business accounts include scheduled monitoring so new deployments are automatically checked and you receive email alerts when new issues appear. Continuous monitoring helps catch regressions introduced during routine updates.
Can I use CloviAble to audit client sites?
Yes. Business accounts support unlimited domains, multi-user access, and client-facing report exports. Each domain’s findings are kept separate — no cross-tenant data sharing. You can generate a report for each client without CloviAble branding.
